Last updated: 10 August 2026

Destination Hub Limited (“Destination Hub”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you use the Local Guide App, our Local Guide websites, make a purchase or booking through us, contact us, or otherwise interact with our services.

It also explains your rights under applicable UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who We Are

For personal information processed in connection with the Local Guide, the data controller is generally:

Destination Hub Limited
Company number: 17323588

Privacy and support enquiries:

support@destinationhub.co.uk

In some circumstances, a third-party provider may separately act as a data controller for information you provide directly to that provider. This is explained further below.

2. What This Privacy Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed through the Local Guide, including when you:

browse the Local Guide;
use location-based or “near me” functionality;
search for local businesses, attractions or services;
purchase products or services directly through the Local Guide;
book hotels, experiences or other travel-related services;
use our forms;
contact customer support;
follow links to affiliate or commercial partners; or
otherwise interact with our websites and services.

3. Personal Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Local Guide.

3.1 Identity and Contact Information

When you make a purchase or booking, submit a form or contact us, we may collect information including:

your name;
email address;
telephone number;
billing address;
residential or contact address;
booking or traveller details; and
information you provide when communicating with us.

3.2 Location Information

Certain Local Guide features may use your location to provide relevant local information, such as attractions, restaurants, events, transport or other services near you.

Depending on your device and permissions, we may process:

approximate location;
location derived from your IP address; and
device-provided location information where you have granted location permission.

Where your browser or device requires permission before sharing precise location information, you can choose whether to grant that permission.

You can normally withdraw location permission through your browser or device settings.

Some location-based features may not function correctly if location access is disabled.

3.3 IP Address and Device Information

When you access the Local Guide, we may automatically receive technical information including:

IP address;
browser type and version;
device type;
operating system;
language settings;
approximate geographic location;
referring website;
pages or features accessed;
timestamps;
diagnostic information; and
other technical identifiers associated with your browser or device.

We may use this information for security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, service operation, analytics and, where permitted, measuring the effectiveness of our services and commercial partnerships.

3.4 Purchase and Booking Information

Where purchases or bookings can be completed directly through the Local Guide, we may process information necessary to administer the transaction.

This may include:

your name;
contact information;
billing address;
product or service purchased;
hotel or accommodation details;
experience or activity details;
booking dates;
number of guests or travellers;
booking references;
transaction amount and currency;
payment status;
cancellation or refund information;
special requests you choose to provide; and
communications relating to the booking or purchase.

Where a booking requires information about additional travellers or guests, you are responsible for ensuring that you have an appropriate basis for providing their information to us.

3.5 Payment Information and Stripe

Payments for certain products or services purchased directly through the Local Guide may be processed using Stripe.

When you make a card payment, payment information may include:

cardholder name;
payment card number;
expiry date;
card security information;
billing address; and
information used for payment authentication or fraud prevention.

Destination Hub does not need to receive or store your full payment card number where payment information is collected and processed directly by Stripe.

Stripe processes payment information in accordance with its own privacy and security practices.

We may receive limited information from Stripe relating to your transaction, such as payment status, transaction identifiers, card type or limited card details, billing information, fraud or risk indicators, refunds and chargebacks.

We use this information to process payments, administer bookings, prevent fraud, issue refunds and maintain financial records.

3.6 Communications

If you contact us, we may retain:

your contact details;
the content of your enquiry;
correspondence with you;
complaint information; and
information necessary to investigate or resolve your request.

4. How We Collect Personal Information

We may collect personal information:

Directly from you, for example when you make a booking, purchase something, enter information into a form or contact us.

Automatically, when you use our websites or Local Guide features, including through server logs, device information, IP addresses, cookies and similar technologies.

From your device, where you give permission for a location-based feature to access location information.

From payment providers, such as Stripe, in connection with payments, refunds, fraud prevention or disputes.

From booking and service providers, where necessary to administer a booking or provide customer support.

From affiliate and commercial partners, for example where a partner reports that a referral resulted in a booking, purchase or other qualifying transaction.

5. How We Use Personal Information

We may use your personal information to:

provide and operate the Local Guide;
provide location-based recommendations;
display relevant nearby attractions, restaurants, events and services;
process purchases and bookings;
arrange hotel or experience reservations;
process and confirm payments;
send booking confirmations and service communications;
manage cancellations and refunds;
provide customer support;
respond to questions and complaints;
maintain transaction and accounting records;
detect and prevent fraud and misuse;
secure our websites and systems;
diagnose technical problems;
understand how our services are used;
improve the Local Guide;
measure referrals and affiliate transactions;
comply with our contractual obligations;
comply with legal, tax, accounting and regulatory requirements; and
establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

6. Our Legal Bases for Processing

UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for processing personal information.

Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on the following legal bases.

Contract

We may process information where it is necessary to enter into or perform a contract with you.

For example, this may apply when we need your name, contact details, booking information and payment information to process a hotel or experience booking you purchase directly through the Local Guide.

Legitimate Interests

We may process information where necessary for our legitimate interests or those of a third party, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

These interests may include:

operating and improving the Local Guide;
providing customer support;
maintaining website and network security;
preventing fraud;
understanding service performance;
protecting our business;
managing commercial and affiliate relationships; and
establishing or defending legal claims.

Legal Obligation

We may process information where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, including tax, accounting, fraud-prevention and regulatory requirements.

Consent

Where required, we may rely on your consent.

This may apply, for example, to certain cookies or similar technologies and certain uses of device location information.

Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.

7. Location-Based Services

Location functionality is an important part of some Local Guide features.

Where enabled, location information may be used to identify nearby:

attractions;
restaurants and cafés;
events;
transport;
experiences;
hotels;
offers; and
other local services.

We aim to use only the location information reasonably necessary to provide the relevant functionality.

Browser or device location permissions can normally be changed at any time through your browser or operating-system settings.

Disabling location access does not necessarily prevent all location estimation. For example, an approximate location may still be inferred from an IP address where permitted and necessary for operating the service.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Local Guide may use cookies, pixels, local storage and similar technologies.

These technologies may be used to:

make the website function;
maintain security;
remember settings;
understand website performance;
measure traffic;
support location or language functionality;
attribute referrals;
measure affiliate transactions; and
support other permitted analytics or commercial functionality.

Where UK law requires consent before placing or accessing a non-essential cookie or similar technology, we will seek consent before using that technology.

You should be provided with further information through our cookie notice or cookie consent mechanism where applicable.

You can also manage cookies through your browser, although blocking certain cookies may affect how the Local Guide functions.

9. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services

The Local Guide includes products and services supplied by third parties and may contain affiliate or referral links.

When you click an affiliate link, you may be redirected to another company's website.

The third party may receive information associated with the referral, which can include technical or referral identifiers necessary to attribute the visit or transaction.

If you then provide personal information directly to that provider, the provider will generally process that information under its own privacy policy.

Destination Hub may receive information confirming that a referral resulted in a transaction and may receive a commission or referral payment.

We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any third-party service before providing personal information to it.

10. Hotels, Experiences and Other Providers

Where you purchase a hotel stay, experience or another travel-related service through the Local Guide, it may be necessary to share relevant booking information with the company responsible for providing or fulfilling that service.

For example, we may provide a hotel or experience operator with:

guest or customer name;
contact information where necessary;
dates;
number of guests;
booking reference;
purchased product or package;
special requests; and
other information required to fulfil the reservation.

The provider may process this information as an independent data controller under its own privacy policy.

Where the transaction is instead completed entirely on a third party's website, that provider is responsible for explaining how it processes the information you submit to it.

11. Who We Share Personal Information With

We may share personal information where reasonably necessary with:

Stripe and other payment-related service providers;
hotels, accommodation providers and booking partners;
tour, activity and experience providers;
technology and hosting providers;
mapping and location-service providers;
analytics providers where permitted;
communications and customer-support providers;
professional advisers such as accountants, auditors and lawyers;
fraud-prevention and security providers;
affiliate and commercial partners where necessary for referral attribution;
regulators, courts, law-enforcement authorities or government bodies where legally required; and
prospective purchasers, investors or advisers in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell personal information merely in the ordinary sense of selling a customer database to unrelated businesses.

12. International Transfers

Some of our service providers or commercial partners may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.

Where UK data protection law applies and personal information is transferred internationally, we will take appropriate steps to ensure that the transfer is lawful.

Depending on the destination and recipient, these safeguards may include:

UK adequacy regulations;
appropriate contractual safeguards;
the UK International Data Transfer Agreement;
the UK Addendum to approved standard contractual clauses; or
another transfer mechanism permitted by applicable law.

You may contact us if you would like further information about safeguards relevant to your personal information.

13. How Long We Keep Personal Information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including satisfying legal, regulatory, tax, accounting and reporting requirements.

Different categories of information may therefore have different retention periods.

For example:

booking and transaction records may need to be retained to comply with accounting, tax and contractual requirements;
customer-service correspondence may be retained for an appropriate period to resolve disputes and maintain records;
security information may be retained where necessary to investigate or prevent abuse; and
cookie and analytics information will be retained according to the relevant technology and provider settings.

When information is no longer required, we will delete or anonymise it where reasonably practicable, unless continued retention is required or permitted by law.

14. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss or destruction.

These measures may include access controls, encryption, secure communications, payment-provider security controls and other safeguards appropriate to the information involved.

However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.

You should take reasonable precautions when using online services and should not send payment card information to us by ordinary email.

15. Children's Privacy

The Local Guide is intended primarily for adults and people arranging travel, activities or local services.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information directly from children where doing so would require parental or guardian authorisation under applicable law.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact support@destinationhub.co.uk.

16. Your Data Protection Rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you the right to:

access personal information we hold about you;
correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
request deletion of your personal information;
restrict processing in certain circumstances;
object to processing based on legitimate interests;
receive certain information in a portable format where the right to data portability applies;
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
have rights relating to certain automated decision-making where applicable.

These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions and do not apply in every circumstance.

To exercise a privacy right, contact:

support@destinationhub.co.uk

We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request.

We will respond within the period required by applicable data protection law.

17. Automated Decision-Making

We do not intend to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated processing unless this is permitted by law and appropriate information and safeguards are provided.

Third-party payment providers such as Stripe may independently use automated systems for fraud prevention, risk assessment or payment authentication. Their own privacy information should explain those activities.

18. Marketing

Where we send direct electronic marketing, we will do so in accordance with applicable data protection and electronic communications law.

Where consent is required, we will seek it.

You can unsubscribe from marketing communications using the unsubscribe facility provided in the relevant message or by contacting us.

Service communications relating to an active purchase or booking are not necessarily marketing and may still be sent where necessary to perform our contract with you.

19. Links to Other Websites

The Local Guide may contain links to external websites.

This Privacy Policy does not govern independent third-party websites.

When you leave our service, the organisation operating the external website may collect and process your personal information under its own privacy policy.

We encourage you to review that policy before submitting personal information.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our services, technology, providers, business practices or legal obligations.

The latest version will be published through the Local Guide with an updated “Last updated” date.

Where a change is significant and applicable law requires additional notification, we will take appropriate steps to inform affected users.

21. Complaints

If you have concerns about how we use your personal information, please contact us first so that we have an opportunity to investigate:

Destination Hub Limited
support@destinationhub.co.uk

You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.

Information about making a complaint is available from the ICO at ico.org.uk.

If you are located outside the UK, you may also have the right to contact the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
