Antony Gormley's Another Time Sculpture

Standing quietly beneath the Harbour Arm, Another Time XVIII by renowned British sculptor Sir Antony Gormley is one of Folkestone's most striking public artworks. Installed for the Folkestone Triennial 2017, the life-sized cast-iron figure proved so popular that it has remained as a permanent feature of the town's waterfront. 

Part of Gormley's internationally acclaimed Another Time series of 100 sculptures, the figure is cast from the artist's own body and stands alone, gazing silently out across the English Channel. As the tide rises and falls, the sculpture is periodically surrounded or partially submerged by the sea, creating an ever-changing and thought-provoking scene that explores humanity's relationship with nature, time and the landscape. 

Accessible at low tide via the historic loading bay beneath Folkestone Harbour Arm, the sculpture has become one of the town's most photographed landmarks. Its dramatic coastal setting makes it especially captivating at sunrise and sunset, when changing light and tides transform the artwork into a unique visual experience.
